The refuge

Guido Muzio is a refuge of the Club Alpino Italiano, the Italian Alpine Club licensed to the Chivasso branch. The stone building has a timber roof covered with traditional stone slabs (the "lose"). It was a small barrack built in 1939-40 as a military post on the road towards the French border. The area is littered with remains of defense lines and military engineering, in particular two timber bridges and a few dry-stone arch bridges.

In 1948 the Chivasso branch of the Club Alpino Italiano took over the building from the Army (severely damaged in WWII) and converted it in an alpine refuge. Since then the structure has been completely overhauled and today has 11 small bedrooms with bunk beds, a big dining room which can also be used for seminars, a bar and a lounge with a double sided fireplace, a small maps and photos museum, a small library, a large flat outdoor space and a small chapel under the larches.
